Comparison
How is Arrio different from a code audit?
The short answer
A code audit is a one-off engagement that tells engineers what to fix. Arrio is a continuing measurement that tells the people who fund software what the investment produces, in business terms. The inputs overlap; the question, the audience and the shelf life do not.
Different question
A code audit answers "what is wrong with this codebase". It is a technical question with a technical answer, and a good audit answers it well. Arrio answers "what is our software investment producing, and is the shift to AI paying off". That is a financial and strategic question that happens to be answerable from the code.
Both are legitimate. They are simply not substitutes, and organisations that have bought one sometimes discover they needed the other.
Different audience
An audit report is written for engineering leadership, and it usually stays there. Arrio reports to the people who sign off the spend: the CEO, the CFO, the CIO. The output is in the language of value against cost rather than of severity and remediation effort.
That is also why the framing matters. Data about engineering presented to finance can read as surveillance if it is about people. Arrio measures the work, never the worker, which is what makes it defensible to bring into a budget conversation.
Different shelf life
An audit is a photograph. It is accurate on the day and starts ageing immediately, which is why the findings are so often stale by the time they reach a decision. Arrio is a continuing measure, so the question "has this got better since we spent the money" has an answer rather than an opinion.
Where independence comes in
Arrio sells none of the tools it measures and delivers none of the work it assesses. A firm that audits your code and then bids for the remediation has an interest in what the audit finds. That is not an accusation, it is a structural fact, and it is the reason independence is the wedge here rather than a slogan.
If you want a list of fixes, buy an audit. If you want to know what the money produced, that is this.
